What is a Child and Family Investigator (CFI)?

A court-appointed investigator whose role is to collect relevant information needed to make an informed recommendation concerning the best interests of the child. A CFI can be a mental health professional or an attorney. In Colorado, CFIs are normally subject to a maximum rate which they may charge for their entire investigation. Therefore, a CFI’s investigation is normally more abbreviated than the investigation of a “PRE.”
