Can Your Texts Be Used During Your Colorado Divorce Proceedings?

Transcript:

Hi, this is Doug Thomas and today’s topic is text messages. As attorneys, we are often asked whether text messages can be evidence in a courtroom. The answer is of course text messages are evidence in a courtroom. Just like an email or any other electronic communication, text messages are evidence. Let me give you an example. A few months ago, our attorneys approached me and asked me to buy the biggest best color printer there was. When I asked why a law firm would need a big fast color printer the answer was simple. To print text messages so that the yellow and the blue would show as evidence in a courtroom. Today our color printer is used virtually every day to print text messages in yellow and in blue as evidence in a courtroom. So just remember, before you hit send, text messages can and will be used against you in a court of law.
